Union: Hired with AA in 1988 at LGA/JFK as Fleet Service,1989 transferred to Aircraft Maintenance in LGA, 1990 transferred to DFW were I worked narrow body B check/terminal, 1991 transferred to SJU to help family and found myself getting involved with union as a AMT Steward. In 1992 transferred back to DFW were I worked wide body B check and Engine crew, 1995 became Steward were I also got involved as a safety Steward and was later asked to become Safety Chairman.

Goal: My goals are to get a much better contract and to reduce the injuries of my fellow AMT's. You only have one life to protect and it is up to all of us to get the best information (PPE) we can out to our union brothers and sisters.

Goal: I became a shop steward because I felt we need people that can interface professionally with management when providing union representation.

Each month your Local 565 Safety Representatives perform inspections both at the Terminal and Hangar. They complete a general walk around on all terminal areas inspecting the condition of safety equipment, fire bottles, serviceability and inspection dates.  They also ensure emergency fire lanes are kept clear and Jet bridges are inspected for service ability and condition.

A general walk around of all the hangars is done to inspect the conditions of safety equipment such as fire bottles for condition and inspection dates. The Safety Representatives work to make certain that equipment is clear and free form obstructions.

Attending the following Safety Meetings:

Hangar: The hangar safety meeting is always held on the first Wednesday of each month. The issues brought forward are the result of the inspection accomplished on the 20th of the month prier. The meeting is normally held at the hangar (3) conference room at 8:30 AM. Manager Dave Mangone chairs the meeting. Also in attendance are Headquarters’ Occupational Safety Shelia Casinger, Facility Maintenance Manager John Schmotzer, Stores Manager Brenda Butler, Midwest Cleaning Services Manager Silvia Castillo, and TWUA

Local 576 Safety Rep Pam Winstanley.

Terminal: The terminal meeting is always held on the first Tuesday of the month. The issues brought forward at this meeting are terminal safety issues resulting from the safety inspection accomplished on the 20th of the month prier. The meeting is normally held in Mark Mullen’s Conference office at 8:30 AM. Aircraft Maintenance Manager Robert Garcia chairs the meeting. In attendance are Headquarters’ Occupational Safety Shelia Casinger, Facility Maintenance Manager Dennis Mariano and Midwest Cleaning Services Manager Kalim Anglada.

JSC:                     (Joint Safety Council)

The Joint Safety council normally meets on the second Wednesday of the month at either 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. This Committee addresses the safety issues that are not addresses thought the normal safety circles. This can also address issues that can be answered by another department at DFW.

APC:                   (Accident Prevention Council)

The meeting occurs the last Thursday of the month at the Yandry Conference Room times very. This committee addresses issues that are incapable of being addressed in normal safety circles or Joint Safety Meetings.
